Three geoscientists will be awarded the prize during the German Geological Society's AGM on 25 September 2017 in Bremen
This year, three early career geoscientists will be awarded the DFG's Bernd Rendel Prize for their multifaceted and original research. Jaayke Lynn Fiege, whose doctoral thesis at the universities of Hanover, Germany and Michigan, USA deals with ore deposit geochemistry, Sinikka Tina Lennartz of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, whose thesis addresses the quantification and impacts of marine emissions of climate-relevant trace gases, and Sebastian Sippel, whose thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena involves research in the field of geoecology, were selected by the jury from 16 applications. They each receive €1500 for scientific use from the Bernd Rendel Foundation, which is administered by Stifterverband, a joint initiative started by companies and foundations – the only one in Germany to be devoted entirely to consulting, networking and promoting improvements in the fields of education, science and innovation. The prize money will allow the winners to participate in international congresses and meetings. The Bernd Rendel Prize 2017 will be awarded on 25 September at the German Geological Society AGM in Bremen.
